April showers bring May flowers, along with another issue of Dykes and Dolls. Yay!
The art for this issue comes from Jessie Miller, an NYC-based artist, performer, and writer from Cincinnati. Their work traverses a multitude of subjects from figurative work to abstraction. Miller looks to represent a personal history through their work focusing on line, warmth, and the physical world.
Today’s poem, “Glossy Pages,” comes from sex columnist and fashion stylist Bunny Overstreet. Her writing is a love letter to hyper-femininity, New York, and general carpet munching behaviors. When she’s not falling in love and wearing pretty little outfits, she's crafting, making zines, and dancing in bars (where she falls in love and wears pretty little outfits).
This issue’s featured event is for the artsy DaDs among us. Go Figure BK, a weekly figure drawing session hosted at Godspeed Arts, has a monthly Dyke Night hosted by Kayla Wasserman that is not to be missed. Whether you’re a professional artist like our art director Abbey or a total novice like me, Lota, who had to stop drawing as a hobby because the stress generated by my lack of talent was giving me heart palpitations, there’s space for you to pick up a paintbrush (or a marker or a piece of charcoal) at Go Figure.
The temperature outside is rising (thank GOD), and so is the amount of events we’re cramming into every issue. In fact, rumor has it that we’ll be expanding soon to bring you more events, more art, more poetry, and secret other odds and ends. Allegedly. For now, there are plenty of lesbian book clubs and trans slut rock concerts to go around—and next month, we may or may not be throwing a Dykes and Dolls event of our own to bring our people together. Watch this space…
